Homemade soap costs glycerin vs soap flakes?

I want to start building homemade soaps for things such as gifts. Is the cost decrease with glycerin soaps or traditional soap flake soaps? Any tips of keep the costs down?

You aren't really "building" the soap if you use glycerin..... you are just melting and pouring. Same with the soap flakes. Better to learn how to make the real thing.... using oils and lye. Not only can you adapt and change the recipe for skin types, you can add things too.... like oatmeal, chamomile flower petals, essential oils that also are excellent for the skin. Commercially bought "melt and pour" soaps have many chemicals that do not appear in homemade lye soap. There are many tutorials online that will lecture you the basics to building lye soap. Having been a soap maker for years, I would suggest you try this method.
